Introducing the Deck Shoe and Slip On
Today we are excited to debut two styles made with a manufacturing method that is new to our factory. The Deck Shoe and Slip On are Cup Sole Sneakers produced with true Side Wall Stitch Construction. Margom Cup Soles are made in Italy from an exceptionally hardwearing rubber and offer a supportive but comfortable fit. The upper of each shoe is tucked under a heavyweight leather insole during lasting and then cemented to the Cup Sole before being stitched 360 degrees along a groove on the top edge of the sole unit. This creates an extremely strong bond between upper and sole, but maintains the flexibility of traditional vulcanized footwear.
The Deck Shoe is our interpretation of the WWII USN sneaker that was developed specifically to handle the slippery conditions at sea. The silhouette would later become a staple of casual American footwear, eventually forming strong ties to Southern California skate culture in the 1970s.
The idea of a casual laceless shoe goes all the way back to the 1920s, but it wasn't until the late 70s and early 80s that a canvas version with a rubber sole was widely popularized. Worn all across America, but particularly in California where it would be adopted by skaters and eventually associated with the punk movement. The Slip On is our ode to this era.
While both styles were originally made from canvas, we've crafted ours from a variety of Italian suedes and leathers for a luxurious take on these iconic shoes. Proudly made in Canada at our Victoria factory from start to finish. Browse the entire selection of Cup Sole Sneakers here.
